General Solar Questions4 Questions
What is solar energy and how does it work?
Solar energy is electricity generated from sunlight using photovoltaic (PV) panels. Solar panels absorb sunlight and convert it into DC electricity, which an inverter then converts to AC electricity that powers your home appliances. Excess energy can be stored in batteries or fed back to the grid.
How much space is required for solar installation?
Generally, 1 kW of solar requires approximately 100–120 square feet of shadow-free rooftop space. So a 3kW system needs about 300–360 sq ft. Our team will conduct a free site survey to assess your roof area and determine the optimal system size.
Does solar work on cloudy or rainy days?
Yes, solar panels still generate electricity on cloudy days, though at reduced efficiency (typically 10–25% of peak output). On rainy days, generation is lower but panels actually benefit from natural cleaning. For continuous power during low-sunlight periods, a hybrid or off-grid system with battery backup is recommended.
What is the difference between On-Grid, Off-Grid and Hybrid solar systems?
On-Grid: Connected to utility grid. No battery backup — power goes out during grid failure. Ideal for urban areas with stable grid. Off-Grid: Fully independent. Runs entirely on solar + battery. Best for remote areas. Hybrid: Connected to grid + battery backup. Best of both worlds — reduces bills and provides backup during outages.
Cost & Subsidy Questions4 Questions
How much does a solar rooftop system cost in India?
A typical 3kW on-grid system costs ₹1.5–2.0 lakh before subsidy. After the PM Surya Ghar Yojana subsidy of up to ₹78,000, your net cost can be ₹80,000–1.2 lakh. System cost varies based on brand, capacity, and installation complexity. Contact us for a precise quote.
What government subsidies are available for solar in 2024–25?
Under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: ₹30,000 subsidy for 1 kW, ₹60,000 for 2 kW, ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above. This applies to residential consumers. We handle all documentation and subsidy application on your behalf at no extra cost.
How long to recover my investment (ROI)?
For a typical residential system, ROI is achieved in 3–5 years. After that, you enjoy free electricity for 20+ more years. With rising electricity tariffs, the payback period is getting shorter. A 3kW system typically saves ₹25,000–40,000 per year on electricity bills.
What is Net Metering and how does it benefit me?
Net Metering lets you feed surplus solar electricity back to the grid and earn credits on your electricity bill. At night, you draw from the grid using these credits, effectively making your electricity bill near-zero. We handle all net metering paperwork and DISCOM registration.
Installation & Maintenance4 Questions
How long does installation take?
Residential systems (1–10 kW) are typically installed within 2–3 working days. Larger commercial or industrial projects may take 5–10 days. The process involves site survey, design finalization, panel mounting, wiring, inverter installation and system commissioning.
How much maintenance does a solar system need?
Solar systems require minimal maintenance. Panels should be cleaned every 3–6 months to remove dust and debris. Inverter software updates and annual electrical inspections are recommended. We offer Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMC) starting ₹2,500/year covering all routine maintenance and priority service calls.
What warranties do you offer?
We provide: 25-year performance warranty on solar panels (minimum 80% output), 10-year product warranty on panels, 5-year warranty on inverters, 2-year warranty on batteries, and 1-year installation warranty. We only use Tier-1 brands like Waaree, Adani, Havells, and Luminous.
What happens to my solar system during heavy rain or storms?
Quality solar panels are rated for wind speeds up to 130–150 km/h and are tested for heavy rainfall and hail. Proper mounting structures ensure they withstand extreme weather. In the unlikely event of damage, our warranty and AMC packages cover inspection and repair.
